Project Contributions

MecGuild - Project Contributions (Elevating Wheelchair):

• I assisted the scribe in writing the meeting minutes for our first team meeting, each team member wrote down their suggested research topic, the disadvantages and advantages of their topic in the minutes. A suggestion of mine is "Inbuilt/GPS tracker for bicycles".

• For our chosen research topic "Elevating Wheelchair", I researched on some suggestions to improve the current design of elevating wheelchair.
• We chose this topic as most of us have elderlies who rely on a wheelchair to move around
• The team wanted to improve the functions of the wheelchair
• The main issue we wanted to tackle was the difficulties elderlies have when getting up and down the wheelchair

• I brainstormed some mechanisms that exist today that is able to lift a load up and down.
• Used prior knowledge on mechanical engineering in Polytechnic

• I thought of and suggested a "scissors mechanism" which is used in the construction industry to lift their workers up and down.

• The team agreed with the suggestion and we went on to do a more in depth research of the mechanism that exist in the market right now and wanted to check if it was feasible to install it onto a wheelchair
• The team looked up on google and prompt chatGPT on some real-world application of the scissors mechanism.

• The team found some issues regarding the Scissors Mechanism, particularly concerning the weight and decide to change the mechanism, the team had to think of new mechanism.

• I manage to think of a mechanism used by barbers chairs, it utilizes a hydraulic pump system which requires no electricity and the ability to push the user up and down.

• The team then start researching more on the mechanism and we are able to start on the report and presentation.
